Cream Teas : Essex vs Devon
Posted on 20 September 2009 by Josie Watson
We’ve had many Devon cream teas over the years on our visits to the south west, but, perhaps surprisingly, Essex can compete with them.
Whilst Devon can supply local cream, a visit to the Wilkin and Sons cafe provides you with jam made on the farm, from fruit grown on the farm. We can recommend their Little Scarlet jam – as can James Bond, who evidently cites it as his favourite in the book From Russia With Love.
We popped into the cafe for a cream tea, and had a look around the shop, but left their museum for another day. You can see some of their old agricultural equipment next to the car park.
You can find out more at their website.
