2014 was a notable year for cycling in Essex, with the Tour de France coming through Essex. Roads and villages from the far north of the county in Saffron Walden, to Epping on the outskirts of London, were packed with cheering spectators. We were part of the huge crowd in Finchingfield, and it was quite a memorable day!
There are a growing number of cycle clubs, and organised rides for riders of various levels. Whether you are a MAMIL (Middle Aged Man in Lycra), a seasoned (as in weather-beaten) commuter, or a whippet-thin rider looking forward to the next long-distance sportive, hopefully you’ll find something on Essex Days Out for you.
If you want a leisurely ride around country lanes, check out our routes to the right. We’ve starting building up the list of organised rides in 2017 below – several of which we’ll be on! If you’re running a cycling event, use our add an event page to give us the details.
Organised Rides in Essex 2017
This list includes rides suited to both the less experienced cyclist and the experience sportive rider. If you haven’t been on a charity bike ride – get in training : they’re great fun! But do make sure you and your bike are in reasonable condition on the day!
Some of these rides will have short route options for those who aren’t regular riders. Sign up for a few and build up your stamina over the summer and target a longer ride later in the year.
