Essex Book festival 2019

The Essex Book Festival is twenty years old this year. It was started in 1999 by Essex Library Service, when all the author events were held in local libraries across the county.

The festival is now run by a trust, and the events are held in not only libraries, but theatres, arts centres, art galleries, community centres and even an old lightship.

Big name authors appearing this year include Melvyn Bragg, Alan Johnson and Barbara Erskine, plus many other local and nationally known authors. There are also walks, arts events, and a programme of events for those involved in their own creative writing at the Pop-Up Writers in Southend, Plus there are lots of author events and activities for children.

This year I will be leading a walk called Colchester Literary Legacies. We’ll be going on la literary quest to discover serpents, detectives, serving wenches and many other Colchester characters. The walk takes place twice on Sunday March 24th at 12noon and 2pm. It’s £5 per person and starts from Firstsite. For more information and to book click here.
