We spotted a couple of lovley etchings of Essex scenes on Twitter, and decided to investigate, and found that they were by local printmaker Glynn Thomas, and they were from the current exhibition at Hayletts Gallery which is featuring his work.
Hayletts Gallery is housed in the ground floor of a handsome eighteenth century building at the top end of Maldon High Street, and we popped in there on our last visit. We asked Sally Patrick, who has run the gallery as a commercial art gallery since 2003, to tell us more. Take a look at some of the etchings and read what she says below.
Sally writes :
“The current exhibition leading up to Christmas is of etchings by the much loved printmaker Glynn Thomas. This artist loves to depict some of East Anglia’s favourite destinations, including many parts of Essex including its many estuaries and rivers, Cambridge, Southwold, Aldeburgh and North Norfolk. Glynn enjoys including as much detail as possible so people continually notice new things in his work even after years of having it displayed on their walls. It is because Glynn also grew up visiting these cities, villages and seaside towns these too resonate with his past, which inspire him to express his strong attraction to the region. Prices are also very reasonable starting at £44 unframed up to £200 framed.
Hayletts Gallery specialises in finding and promoting the best East Anglian artists and also deals in Modern British and Contemporary Fine Art Original Prints including well known artists:- Dame Elizabeth Blackadder, Mary Fedden, Tracey Emin, Sir Peter Blake and Grayson Perry to name but a few. With nine exhibitions a year we show a cross section of watercolours, oils, gouaches, photographs, all forms of original prints alongside ceramics, sculpture and glass. We welcome browsers and buyers alike encouraging a warm and friendly atmosphere. There is also an in house gift shop with designer and usual gifts.”
