It was the 25th Colchester Real Ale and Cider Festival last week, and we’ve been to the majority of them. The first one or two were held at the Colchester Institute, but since then they have been mostly held, very successfully, at the Colchester Arts Centre. (It could actually have been the 26th festival, but one [...] It wasn’t the greatest Easter weekend, weather-wise, and we spent a lot of it on the allotment, getting it ready for the year. We’ve now got some strawberry plants in, some sprout seedlings, sown some carrots and parsnips, and have the beds ready for a lot of stuff currently in the greenhouse. If you were compiling a list of the places to go in Essex, you probably wouldn’t see Harwich and Dovercourt at the top of the list. And Harwich and Dovercourt and a chilly December day wouldn’t be seen as a particularly enticing combination. Well, after today I can safely say that we’ll be pencilling in December [...] We had a quick visit to the 23rd Chappel Beer Festival last Saturday. It was held, as ever, at the East Anglian Railway Museum in Chappel, just a few miles outside of Colchester. |
