The Sun Inn held its second beer festival this year, and it was up to the standard of the first one!
The old Adnams pub The Dragoon is back in the hands of Fred and Hazel, and as The Ale House, it's another top quality real ale pub for Colchester!
The Farmhouse Inn is tucked away to the side of the B184 just south of Thaxted. It's a lovely old building, serving great real ale, and great food. We dropped in for a quick lunch, and were pleased to see Mighty Oak's 'Maldon Gold' and 'Two Hoots' on offer alongside Greene King IPA.
After some antiques hunting in Battlesbridge, we headed back home via The Prince of Wales at Stow Maries for a great lunch - definitely one to head for if you're in the area. And if you're not in the area, head there anyway!
A lovely countryside setting, and a pub with character which brews its own beer, does great food, has music nights, runs beer festivals, and is very eco-friendly.

We missed getting to their big annual beer festival a month or so back, and so our first visit to The Hoop at Stock saw us popping in for lunch today.

I’ve been straining up the hill past The Donkey & Buskins on my cycle for several years, and finally popped in there this lunchtime (in the car, not on the bike!). The pub is on the road out of Colchester towards Layer, and has a large car park to the side and a large garden [...]
