The Farmhouse Inn, Monk Street, nr Thaxted

The Farmhouse Inn is tucked away to the side of the B184 just south of Thaxted. It's a lovely old building, serving great real ale, and great food. We dropped in for a quick lunch, and were pleased to see Mighty Oak's 'Maldon Gold' and 'Two Hoots' on offer alongside Greene King IPA.

A lovely countryside setting, and a pub with character which brews its own beer, does great food, has music nights, runs beer festivals, and is very eco-friendly.

The Vine Inn, Black Notley

The Vine Inn is tucked away in Black Notley, just south of Braintree, and just a couple of minutes drive from Cressing Temple Barn. It's not a place you're likely to drive past, although if you're on the A120 Braintree bypass you will drive fairly close to it!

The Donkey & Buskins, Layer, Colchester
