Tour of Britain cycle race

Last year we were part of the crowd in Colchester to watch the Tour Series cycle race as it did lots of circuits around a tight town centre loop. It was excellent – a real carnival atmosphere and every one really enjoyed the experience (although there -were- plenty of local people who were happy to moan about the road closures and the inconvenience!)

Sky Sports were showing it live, and not only was there a glimpse of us in the crowd, but one of my Tourist Guide colleagues was interviewed before the race – in full Roman armour!

So we were really excited to find out today that the Tour of Britain will be visiting Essex and Suffolk in August, and that one of the stages will finish in Colchester. Friday 17th September 2010 is definitely a  date for the diary – we’ll see a sprint to the line on a day’s racing that starts in Bury St. Edmunds! Britain’s top sprinter (the world’s top sprinter!) Mark Cavendish, probably won’t be there, but you never know!

For a slightly more sedate ride there are a couple of cycle routes on EssexDaysOut. Click on the tag below to read these.
