Guided Coach Tours : Constable Country

This is where the landscape artist John Constable painted many of his most famous paintings including ‘The Haywain’ and ‘Boat Building on the River Stour’. It is part of the Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and at it’s heart is the beautiful River Stour.

A trip to the area can include:

Dedham At the heart of Constable country where Constable wentt to school. It has a very attractive High Street with independent shops,and the fine church of St. Mary’s, built by wealthy Medieval wool merchants.

East Bergholt This is where Constable was born and where The church of St. Mary the Virgin has the famous bell Cage in it’s church yard, along with the graves of John Constable’s parents and Willy Lott.

Flatford . Owned by the National Trust, this is where you can visit Willy Lott’s house, little changed since Constable painted the iconic HayWain. There is a small museum in Bridge Cottage, plus a National Trust shop and tea room.

Lunch, and refreshments can be arranged for parties at Flatford or at one of the tearooms or pubs in Dedham. A Constable Country tour can also include a visit to the Sir Alfred Munnings Art Museum in Dedham
