Farmers Markets have been running for a good number of years, and are a very popular way to spend a morning or afternoon – browsing the stalls and stopping to try the food. They are often in attractive venues, close to other places to visit.
Essex has quite a number of markets, selling a variety of food, drink and other goods. Most take place once a month on a Saturday or Sunday. We’ve brought together a selection of markets across the county. Hopefully there will be one to suit you.
Barleylands in Billericay has a Farmers Market held every fortnight on a Saturday. There’s a whole range of delicious food to buy depending on the season.
Blackmore Farmers’ Market held in Blackmore Village Hall on the 3rd Sunday of every month. Featuring local food producers and some local craft stalls. Long established market running since November 2004.
Burnham on Crouch Farmers and Artisans Market is held in the Village Hall on the third Sunday of every month. more details
Colchester Arts Centre. The market at the Arts Centre is held on the first Friday of the month. It sells a selection of locally produced, meat, veg and much more.
Great Garnetts Farm near Dunmow has a farmers market on the second Saturday of the month. Food stalls with local producers, plus their own pork, bacon, gammon and sausages. Also a selection of craft stalls.
Hylands House holds a farmers market on the first Sunday of every month, March through December between 10am & 4pm. more details
Nayland is in Suffolk – but only just, and it’s included here because it’s a lovely village to visit. The market is held on the second Saturday of the month. “Fantastic produce all of which has come from within a 30 mile radius of Nayland with traders travelling from Colchester, Lawford, Sudbury and Wormingford.”
Valentines Mansion The markets at the mansion are held on the last Sunday of the month. its a chance to “buy some local and seasonal food and visit the mansion, gardens and cafe.”
Wivenhoe Farmers Market takes place on the third Saturday of the month in the Congregational Church Hall. it sells fresh fruit and veg, and a varied range of local producers are present.
