About Southend on Sea
Southend is one of the most famous seaside resorts in the country. At the north of the town are some quieter beaches, but the centre of the town with the pier and loud amusement arcades and Adventure Island, is your traditional seaside town – kiss me quick hats, candy floss, donkey rides and the like.
Getting there and getting about
Southend has a pair of railway stations, and lots of dual carriageway to zoom you in and out of what is now a city, so no excuse for not going!
Once there you can walk the length of their 1.3mile pier (or get the train to the end!).
You can ride the rollercoasters at Adventure Island, or if fish are your thing visit the Sealife Adventure Aquarium. For a bit of culture there are a couple of museums and a planetarium.
The Southend Carnival is a big annual event, although sadly the Southend Air Show is no more.
For evening entertainment there are a pair of theatres
The Visit Southend website is packed full of details of what is happening in the city.
